Metal Message is a great Metal promotional service based in Germany. When nature calls (!), Metal Message compiles songs by their clients into a sampler, as demonstrated. The result is a great collection of Metal artists whose work tells us a tale, seen through the eyes of Metal Message.
Initially a haven for Folk/Pagan Metal bands, Metal Message features all styles of Metal. The Paganism of Metal Message IV (2007, see the review Here) was in full evidence. IV and now VI have great cover artwork, VI going for a ghostly WWI theme with a long-dead officer's spirit desperately trying to get out a message by morse code. Is it the Metal Message? Obviously!
As such, Metal Message mainman Markus Eck and co. recorded a fun intro where you can hear the nefarious officer's morse code tappings, in the aptly-titled “- -- . - .- .-.. -- . ... ... .- --. .”. The fray begins with Warfield's “Barrage Fire”, a Thrash lobotomy bringing us right into...The Warfield. The melodic Death Metal of Sylvatica ensues, leading into Eisenhauer's “Horse Of Hell”.
Horse Of Hell is a brilliant epic condensed into 5 minutes telling of the infernal horse itself. Sounding like a cross between Dantesco and Slough Feg, Eisenhauer ups the ante by instilling creative genius into their Metal Message VI offering. Incursed provides some classic Power Metal, while Running Death contributes some excellent oldschool Thrash. Morthus' “Blinded By The Holy Light” is anything but holy in it's triple-barrel Blackened attack. Skyconquerer is traditional Heavy Metal which gets me nostalgic for the Metal of the 80's. Cyrence has a Gothic, King-Diamond-like identity with a new style all their own to boot.
Now we come to Vile Ent's personal favourite of the lot, Halo Creation's “Through The Looking Glass”. Perhaps they could be called Avant-Garde Black Metal, with extreme female vocals. With a sick note-bend encased into the main riff, the song is anchored in a swirling, off-time double-kick/bass-rumble backdrop. The vicious proceedings build up into that sick riff once again, now with ominous harmonies added to the insanity. The whole thing creates visions of a grim castle inhabited by mages of darkness. Who are defended by feral berserkers by the name of...Halo Creation!
Mortal Peril is modern Thrash with great oldschool guitar solos, in the classic style of Diamond Head or early Priest. And with a lethal double bass drum attack, Toxic Waltz continues the Thrash with “Priest Of Lie”. Northland contributes a song of Pagan/Power Metal proportions, with accomplished Folk instrumentation via violin, acoustic guitar, and keys. Vengeful Ghoul's growling perversity/high-range insanity Speed Metal is a deranged Metal opus, while Myrkgrav closes the set with a sound similar to a Vintersorg with capabilities for gruff baritone vocals.
All in all, another great collection by Metal Message. For further info on the bands and promotional services, go to Metal Message.
